If you are trying to work out whether €90 for an hour-long massage in Barcelona is a fair price or a visitor markup, the short answer is: it depends almost entirely on what kind of venue you walked into, and much less on which part of the city you are standing in.

Be clear about what these numbers are
These are indicative bands, not quoted menu prices. SEDINA derives them from each venue's tier and type — an independent neighbourhood studio, a physiotherapy clinic, an ayurvedic centre, a hotel spa — rather than from a scraped price list. That is why every figure on this site carries a ~.
They are accurate as a guide to what band a venue sits in, which is the question most people actually have. They are not a promise about what a specific treatment will cost on a specific day. Always confirm with the venue before you book, and treat any big gap between the band and the quote as a question worth asking rather than a bait-and-switch.

What actually moves you up a band
- Clinical credentials. Physiotherapy and osteopathy sessions sit slightly above the standard band. You are paying for a licensed practitioner and a treatment aimed at a specific complaint, not for a nicer room.

How these bands were actually derived
Worth spelling out, because "price data" from a directory usually means one of three very different things.
It does not mean scraped menus. The public sources this database is built from do not publish treatment price lists, so no listing service assembled this way has your actual menu price, whatever the headline claims. It does not mean a phone survey of 81 venues either.
What it means is classification. Each venue was assigned a tier — standard, mid-premium or premium — and a type, from its own public presentation: an independent studio, a physiotherapy or osteopathy clinic, an ayurvedic centre, a hammam or spa, a hotel spa. Each tier-and-type combination maps to a band drawn from prevailing Barcelona market rates for that kind of venue. Hence 5 bands rather than 81 prices.
That method is reliable for the question "roughly what league is this place in", which is the question that decides whether you walk in. It is unreliable for "what will 90 minutes of deep tissue cost me on Thursday", and no amount of presentation would make it otherwise. We would rather tell you which of those two things you are holding.
The costs that are not in the band
Most unpleasant surprises at the front desk are not about the treatment price at all. Four things to establish when you book:
- Whether "60 minutes" is table time. At some venues it is sixty minutes of treatment; at others it is fifty plus consultation and changing. Both are legitimate; knowing which is not optional.
- Whether spa access is included. In the premium band this is the big one. A treatment at a hotel spa may or may not come with the thermal circuit, pool and sauna — and the day pass, bought separately, can rival the treatment itself.
- Whether the price is IVA incluido. Spanish VAT is normally included in a displayed consumer price, but if a quote comes by email or phone, confirm it.
- Whether a package is being quoted rather than a session. Clinical and ayurvedic practices often price a course of treatments. Good value if you want the course; a shock if you wanted one visit.
